The metaphysical side of current events in the middle east
Messiah, Meshaich, Mahdi, and Dajjal
I happened to listen to an episode of Russian Dimensions (أبعاد روسية ) the other day and will share some things learned about the end times heralds mentioned in Islam and Judaism.
This was an interview with Alexander Dugin, often perceived to be a spokesperson for Putin’s political philosophy. He’s a Russian writer and philosopher. His daughter was killed in a car bombing a couple years ago, in an attack presumed to be aimed at Alexander Dugin.
Reading Dugin’s english-language substack has concerned me of late due to increasing rhetoric about world war three. It reads like war-encouragement, and seems like the writing of someone who does not mind tipping it further in that direction.
The episode of Russian Dimensions, posted June 18th, (smack in the middle of the “12 day war”) was about the “metaphysical and religious dimensions” of the strife between Israel and Iran.
In it, Dugin describes perspectives of Zionism and Shia Islam, which both claim that the current events foretell the final apocalyptic battle. You’ve probably already heard all that before.
What interested me was the detail about how Russia sees her role; bear with me as I outline the figures. What follows is a summary of the video, not my opinion.
The “three oaths” of Judaism, described in secular language here, include various interpretations of living in the promised land, and are associated with building the third temple.
Some right wing Israelis are saying it would be necessary to destroy the Al-Aqsa mosque to build the third temple. (Al-Aqsa mosque is also known as Dome of the Rock.)
According to prophecy, these steps would lead to the establishment of the “greater Israel” before the appearance of the Jewish Messiah. (In the interview, they were differentiating the Jewish Messiah المشياخ by using the Hebrew pronunciation, and contrasting it with the standard Arabic pronunciation used for Jesus Christ المسيح.)
According to Dugin, Netanyahu and others have been saying “It’s necessary for us to take our fate into our own hands, therefore we are the Messiah (Meshiach).”
From the Muslim perspective, the final battle would lead to the appearance of the awaited Al-Mahdi, which would dissolve the state of Israel— (literally, the Zionist entity. It does not translate well to polite English.)
In the final days, according to sayings of both Shia and Sunni Islam, the city of Jerusalem will be the starting point for the ascension, and the earth itself will be seized by the Dajjal. (Dajjal is sometimes translated as the Antichrist.)
Al-Mahdi is supposed to appear in Damascus, in the Umayed Mosque, along with Jesus Christ. The Mahdi and Jesus Christ will then lead Muslim believers to fight the Dajjal.
Thus, Dugin goes on to explain, the current events are interpreted by religious Muslims as the Dajjal acting through Israel and attacking Iran directly, as well as committing the genocide in Gaza.
(these are not my opinions; I’m summarizing the video)
Here’s the interesting part: (12:25) Dugin states that Russia views herself as a dam in the way of the antichrist (the Dajjal). He adds that American Protestants and Zionists around Trump have their own ideas about the final days, such as Russia represents Gog and Magog, and therefore Russia must stand on the side of Israel’s enemies. (Again, he appears to be tilting towards war.)
This is an in-depth article on Dugin’s occult associations.
People who give credence to the metaphysical dimension of current events know how powerful words are. It is a type of black magic to rush to name the current events as Dugin has done.

Thank you for the succinct summary. I share your concerns of late re Dugin’s power; to encourage war rather than strive for peaceful narrow path forward.
